Life After Getting A Feline

Whenever I felt like I was in the depths of despair, I always went out and looked for stray cats and dogs to play with. It was my mechanism to feel better and become less stressed. It’s a magical feeling when an animal likes you. It makes me feel accepted and loved! Charles Bukowski says in one of his poems:

“when I am feeling
low
all i have to do is
watch my cats
and my
courage
returns”

It’s been about two years since I first started to convince my mother to get a cat. She was always against the idea although she truly loves cats. And finally, at the beginning of January, she said the magical word that consists of three letters “YES”! Right away, I looked for a little kitten to adopt because why buy a kitten when there are hundreds that need a warm home? I talked to a couple of strangers, but I didn’t have enough luck to adopt their cats.

Then, I finally adopted my beautiful girl, Luna. It might seem childish, but I think we were destined to be partners! The night right before I get her, I made her a lot of toys to play with! She was a really shy girl at first. When I got her out of the box, she hid under the bed. Then when I got her out, she vanished and hid on a chair! We kept looking for her everywhere then eventually, after about 15 minutes, we finally found her laying on that chair, completely scared.

Poor Luna, it took her a little time to adapt to her new home! It’s all thanks to that tip I got from the internet: slow blinking in the feline language is a communicating affection. It makes the cat believe that you’re not a threat. And it worked like magic! Luna started to trust me. She started to come on my bed and play with me. It was lovely bonding with her step by step!

Now we share the same bed. She either sleeps on the top of my chest, between my legs or on my arm. She’s so tiny and I adore her cute sleeping positions. One night, I was feeling down and I was crying non-stop. Although cats are known to be emotionally intelligent, they don’t necessarily have empathy. But it was more than enough to hold Luna and give her a ton of kisses then go to sleep! I bet she was thinking “meow meow meow!!” which translates into “This human is crazy, she woke me up for nothing!”

Having Luna surely changed my life in my small room entirely although we’ve been together for about 15 days only. I have a partner that paws my face gently in the morning, or chews my hair or simply purrs right in front of my face to wake me up. She makes my day everyday! She does resemble her name, Luna: a moon, the brightens up my small dark room. I will try my best to become a good mother!
