In every society, doctors are highly respected. Children dream of that profession because doctors are somewhat like heroes. They appear when pain is unbearable to relieve it for you. They save your life when you’re about to die. They also appear intelligent because how could someone be a doctor if they weren’t smart? The society treats doctors as if they know everything. Politics? Sports? History? Literature? He’s a doctor, he must know all about these!
Of course
doctors don’t know everything. Not everyone is interested in history or
literature. Nobody knows everything. Doctors are humans just like you and me.
If they do something wrong, they’ll be punished just like everybody else! What
I want you to know, my friend, is that every profession is important. Whatever
your dream is, it is important and it is worth running after it.
Having a
dream is nice, but shouldn’t you consider the consequences as well? I’m not
telling you to stop dreaming of being a doctor, not at all. I’m just trying to
show you all of the sides you should know about. Because behind that flourish
road, there are a lot of sacrifices.
What is a
successful good doctor to you? Is it someone well-known with a lot of patients
in his clinic? Well, to me the definition differs a little bit. A good doctor
is someone who gives the right diagnosis, asks for all of the required
information before giving you medications and someone who wouldn’t mind if you
called after midnight because you’re in pain. A good doctor, to me, is someone
who would do whatever he could to relieve your pain.
If you’re
okay with waking up after midnight to give consultation, you’re on the right
track! Your goal is to really help people and save their lives. I hope you stay
like this because we need more people like you. I think a doctor who only cares
about saving people’s lives will do his best to excel in his studies. It’s
hard, but as long as you do know what your goal is, only look forward. It’s
okay to take a breath from time to time, but make sure to never look down.
One of the
downsides of being a doctor, in my opinion, is that you might not find time to
form a family. If you succeed in forming a family, will you succeed in bringing
your children up? I think it’s hard to separate work from personal life. You
have patients waiting for you, but also kids who you should spend time with. I
salute whoever is a good doctor and a good parent at the same time!
Honestly,
most doctors are turning into traders these days. Some only think about money,
so make sure to remind yourself over and over again of your main goal. You
entered this school to save people’s lives and to relieve their pain. Not to
become rich and famous. I also hope you know that a doctor’s mistake equals a
life. Study hard and know what’s new in the medical world to avoid such
mistakes. I wish you the best of luck, I really do.
One of the
underrated medical fields is nursery. We have to understand that a nurse’s job
isn’t less important than a doctor’s job. The surgeon finishes the operation
and goes home to sleep, but a nurse will stay up with you to give you the
painkillers you need or help you change your clothes or go to the bathroom.
These things aren’t easy for patients after operation. And just like bad doctors,
we have bad nurses, so make sure to become a good one. Make sure to make the
patient as comfortable as possible because that’s all that matters.
Each field
is important. Don’t let social standards convince you with the opposite. Find
your passion and run after it. Even if everyone is against you, don’t listen to
them and keep walking. If you couldn’t join a medical school, you can still
help other people in a lot of forms, so don’t let that bring you down. Soon
enough, you’ll realize the reason why God chose that field for you. Until then,
“Dream, hope, forward, forward”.

ReplyDeleteOn the point that doctors are turning into traders: i think doctors have rights - like any other profession - to make money, it is not their fault. what to blame is the lack of health insıurance system.
ReplyDeleteI agree that the system is the one to blame, yeah sure. But there is something called HUMANITY. That's what some doctors lack. They only focus on money and they totally forget about their patients' pain. I hope you understand the difference.
DeleteI suppose that doctors develop tolerance toward pain, since they have to deal with many patient and their pains: at the beginning doctors empathy toward the patient, but after a while pain becomes the normal thing. sure acting humanly is the ideal thing to do, but do not expect to see that common in large groups of people - like doctors-, instead expect the opposite. My point is reality could be rosy sometimes but most of the time it is ugly and seeing it as it is, is more beneficial in my opinion.
DeleteWell, it's literally doctors' job to relieve people's pain. I think they do something like a swear to help anybody in pain, right? They don't have to have empathy... At least they should do their job instead of focusing on money only. I just said my own definition of a "good" doctor, which means I don't really consider those who only care about money as "good" doctors, although they can be so good at their job..
